Multi-generational living: Two families under one roof

Anne Marie Coe, a student support manager, lives with her husband, Albert, a retired trawler captain, her son, Nicholas, daughter, Kate, plus her mother and father, Gwen, a retired teacher, and Charlie McGuigan, a retired miner, in a house in East Sleekburn, Northumberland.

They moved into their two-storey, Victorian farmhouse 11 years ago after selling their individual homes and pooling their resources. Anne Marie and her family live in the main house, while Charlie and Gwen live in a cottage attached to one end, with a door on the ground floor that connects the two living spaces.
